THE INS AND OUTS OF CHANEL CHAIN HANDLES
Inspired by the chain strap on the bag of a soldier, Chanel used many different chains on their bags in the past years. The most popular and characteristic are the leather entwined chains. There's a rumour saying these kind of chains were used by the nuns as key ring in the orphanage where Coco Chanel grew up.
Classic Chanel Chain Leather
This is the chain you see all the time, mostly on the Chanel 2.55 Timeless Classic Flap Bag. But also on the Wallet on Chain and the Shopping Tote. The length of the chain differs on these bags. The chain of the Timeless Classic Flap Bag is never long enough to wear cross body, but the chain on the WOC is more than long enough. Of course the Shopping Tote is made to wear on the shoulder. The interwoven chain comes in matte or shiny silver and gold, the leather always in tune with the bag.
Chanel Reissue Chain
The Reissue chain, or Mademoiselle chain, is mainly used on the Chanel Reissue 2.55 Bag, but also on other bags which have been relaunched in new version. All of these bags have the word 'Reissue' integrated in their name. The chain of the Chanel Reissue 2.55 Bag can be worn single or double on the shoulder. It is too short for cross body wear. Comes is matte or shiny silver, gold and black.
This chain is no longer in production, but was used in 2007 and 2008 for the Timeless Classic Flap Bags and different styles of Reissues. The chain links are wide-set and also more shiny than the regular chains. The bijoux chain on styles as mentioned is also too short to wear cross body. In gold and silver.
Gun Metal Chain
This chain has a so-called antique finish, which makes it less shiny and gives it blackish accents. This chain is particularly used on the Chanel Boy Bag, at which the chain is interrupted by a leather belt. The chain of the Boy Bag has always enough length to wear cross body, but double wear on the shoulder is also an option, of course. Matte finishing in black, gold and silver.
